Ferries and Farewells

Well, we are wrapping up our last day in Bangkok, and in Southeast Asia.  The group went in different directions today.  Some went to see elephants, others to see temples, and some to find more markets.  We leave the hotel in about 3 hrs to head to the airport for the long trip back home.  We always end the trips with mixed feelings.  Most are missing home and ready to go back, but there is also a sense of finally being “settled in”, so that we could stay indefinitely.  But, America is calling us back and off we go.

Scavenger Hunt

Something I started a couple years ago is doing a scavenger hunt with the group.  This is a way of getting the students out to see different parts of the city.  They are given tasks, sometimes only obscure clues, and have to go out and fulfill them with photographic proof.  Here are a few of their photos:

Sawadee Bangkok!

Well, we reached the final leg of our journey: Bangkok, Thailand.  The contrast between laid back Penang and frenetic Bangkok is evident as soon as you exit the airport.  Bangkok is a bustling city, with a completely different feel than any of our previous locations.

Fruit, Ferringhi, and Fajitas

We did another of our favorite annual visits today.  We visited Penang’s Tropical Fruit Farm.  The farm is a preservation project for rare and exotic fruits,  Mr. Quah, the owner, is always experimenting with new fruits and methods of growing.  They also do a lot of experimenting with fruit byproducts, producing things such as fruit vinegar, coconut oil, and lemongrass tea.
